  In a game that produced all of the expected offensive firepower and featured All-American performers at virtually every offensive skill position, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl was decided by the kickers.
  No. 3 ranked Oklahoma State outlasted No. 4 Stanford, 41-38 in overtime, because the Cowboys' Quinn Sharp made both of his field goal attempts. The Cardinal saw their hopes of winning fade away because Jordan Williamson missed three attempts, including one that would have won the game at the end of regulation and another in the overtime period. In the 2011 season, Oklahoma State, a high scoring offense, averaging 49.3 points a game behind quarterback Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon. Stanford had a more balanced approach with quarterback Andrew Luck and running back Stepfan Taylor averaging more than 200 yards passing and rushing while scoring an average of 43.6 points per game.
  
  Oklahoma State was never able to take a lead in Fiesta Bowl regulation. Falling behind 28-21 early in the third quarter and 31-24 late in the third, the Cowboys knotted the score at 31-31 when Weeden threw to Blackmon on a 17-yard pass with 11:53 remaining in the game. Stanford immediately answered with a 13-play drive that ended in Taylor's second touchdown run for a short-lived 38-31 lead. Weeden came back, finding Blackmon again for 21 yards in a fourth down situation, to extend the drive. Joseph Randle finished with a touchdown from four yards out tying the game 38-38. there was just enough time for Luck to bring Stanford to the opposing 17-yard line, but with only three seconds left, Williamson hooked his field goal attempt wide left from 35 yards and the game went to overtime.
  
  The Cardinal was forced to attempt another kick, this time from 43 yards, in the extra period and Williamson again was off the mark. Oklahoma State drove down to the one-yard line and Sharp nailed the game winner right through the middle. It was the first time both starting quarterbacks threw for more than 300 yards as Weeden finished with 399 and Luck, who completed 27 of 31 passes, had 347. It was only the third overtime game in Fiesta Bowl history.
